Mayo Clinic is pleased to be ranked again among the top 10 U.S. health systems in a second annual nationwide study by Thomson Reuters. The study examined the quality and efficiency of 255 health systems and identified the top health systems based on clinical performance across the entire system.
"We are honored to be ranked as one of the top 10 hospital systems in the country by Thomson Reuters," says John Noseworthy, M.D., president and CEO, Mayo Clinic. "We have a deep-rooted commitment to delivering high-value health care that best meets patients' needs. The ultimate goal is to provide the best health care that is both trusted and affordable."
All U.S. health systems with two or more short-term, general, non-federal hospitals were assessed. Researchers looked at eight metrics that gauge clinical quality and efficiency: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, 30-day mortality rate, 30-day readmission rate, adherence to clinical standards of care (evidence-based core measures published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), and HCAHPS patient survey score (part of a national initiative sponsored by the United States Department of Health and Human Services to measure the quality of care in hospitals).
