Mayo Clinic Health Solutions and Microsoft join forces to develop leading-edge personal health management tools

ROCHESTER, Minn.

Under a new strategic agreement with Microsoft, Mayo Clinic Health Solutions will work with the technology leader to develop the next generation of personal health management tools.

The collaboration is aimed at the development of a personal health record application that connects users with data in new ways to:

  • Help bridge the gaps in the health care system
  • Facilitate closer patient-to-physician connections
  • Drive higher engagement
  • Allow consumers to better manage their health and wellness information

The strategic business alliance will benefit from Microsoft’s technology expertise and Mayo Clinic’s experience in health care.

“We are committed to finding new technology solutions that put the patient and consumer in control,” says Brooks Edwards, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Mayo Clinic Health Solutions. “Our work with Microsoft is an exciting opportunity to create tools that empower patients to be in the very center of their own health care environment."

"We’ll provide the translation, context and advisement necessary to turn health care data into information consumers can understand and act on. Without this step the primary goal of personal health record applications — health improvement and cost reduction –— won’t be realized," says Dr. Edwards.

Further project details will be announced before the end of 2008.
