The Mayo Clinic Tobacco Quitline program aims to meet the specific needs of each caller beginning with the first call, and continues to meet individual needs through specialized counseling follow-up calls and relapse prevention education. Program features include:
Our professional telephonic smoking cessation counselors have more than 10 years of experience using motivational interviewing skills when counseling participants. Counselors begin with an open, collaborative, partnership that honors the participant’s autonomy and self-direction. They continue to evoke perspective and explore the participant’s capacity to change. Participants speak with the same counselor throughout the six-month process; we believe the development of this relationship increases the program's efficacy.
Participants are educated on the powers of nicotine addiction, learn to recognize their triggers for tobacco use and develop effective tools for quitting and preventing relapse.
